Big Woody surfboards Big Woody - Handcrafted Wooden Surfboards - Mt Maunganui, New Zealand

About us

Big Woody Surfboards are based at the world famous Mount Maunganui Beach in new Zealand.

Where have we come from:

Well a while back we had some old manufacturing timber lying around.

Sean, a surfer and timber craftsman from way back, said "I could use this to make a surfboard"....knock yourself out was the

generous response!

And he did, buried in his garage for around 6 months - emerging with a wooden board that looked pretty good

But this board was really for arts sake, not really for surfing and it remains unfinished to this day.

Because then we thought, what about making one we can surf on, that looks like this, and is maybe like this etc....

So he did, and then another and another .....................

To cut a long story short - after about 2 years of development  and testing we learned how to create stunning handcrafted wooden

surfboards that surf fantastically and stop people on the beach let alone look great on your wall.

We now have a custom built factory designed specifically to manufacture and glass wooden surfboards.

The manufacturing process takes between 40 to 50 hours per board.

Our Boards:

We proudly build completely New Zealand Made stock and custom hand-crafted wooden surfboards.

Blanks are fully chambered to our specifications.

All boards are glassed with four ounce cloth and UV epoxy resin.
